One thing we have made progress on during quarantine is our movie and show watching. My natural habitat is on the couch with something good, or just entertaining, on the TV. Everyone has been asking for recommendations so here are the movies and shows we have watched so far during quarantine and my ratings!
Movies
The Wrong Missy (Netflix) 2/5
If you want a background movie, this is the one. It’s about a guy (David Spade) who texts the wrong girl (Lauren Lapkus) to go on a weekend trip with his company. It’s vulgar and raunchy but had its funny moments. I’m not the biggest David Spade fan but Lauren Lapkus is hilarious.
Frozen 2 (Disney+) 5/5
I’m not sure how I didn’t watch this until 7+ months after the release date, but it was incredible! I didn’t think the music was as good as the first but pretty dang good. I also watched Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2, which elevated the movie entirely.
Hamilton (Disney+) 10/5
Do I even need to explain? Let’s just say I watched this 4 times this past week alone. I held off on listening to any of the music until I saw the “live” version. Now that I have, I listen to the soundtrack NON-STOP.
To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (Netflix) 4/5
A cute sequel to the first, I really enjoyed this movie! I was curious to see how John Ambrose would shake things up but was overall happy with how the movie turned out. It makes me want to read the books to see what will happen next.
John Tucker Must Die (HBO) 4/5
I saw this on HBO Go (RIP) and felt like taking it back to high school. A classic rom-com with Penn Badgley. Who knew he would be the Dan Humphrey and Joe Goldberg we all loved and hated.
The Pacifier (HBO) 3/5
I guess I was only a throwback kick with this one. It was another movie I saw on HBO Go and felt it was a great idea to relive. Made me miss Salzburg because of the Sound of Music reference.
The Kissing Booth 2 (Netflix) 4/5
It was kind of long at 2.5 hours, but I liked where the story went. It was kind of awkward knowing that Joey King and Jacob Elordi broke-up in real life, but you get over it quickly. I’m curious to see how KB3 will pan out.
Work It (Netflix) 2/5
This movie was slightly disappointing. I love Liza Koshy, but this movie was a little too cheesy for me. The “bad” dancing looked fake (obviously) and the dance routines weren’t mind-blowing.
The Parent Trap (Disney+) 100000/5
DUH.
Shows
Selling Sunset (Seasons 1-3) (Netflix) 5/5
I binged this entire series in 2 days. I HAVE A PROBLEM but love me some petty drama. I ended up really disliking everyone except Mary and Chrishell by the end but I already can’t wait until season 4!
Floor is Lava (Season 1) (Netflix) 3/5
This was a “watch during dinner” type of show with a super simple concept: don’t fall in because the floor is lava! If it wasn’t for the commentary, I’m not sure we would have made it through the show.
Tiger King (Netflix) 3/5
This show got weirder after every episode. We only watched it because everyone and their actual moms had watched it. Crazy, twisty, and very weird weird weird. And yes – I think she did it.
Dead to Me (Season 2) (Netflix) 4/5
I binged the first season in one weekend and did the same for season 2. This season was really good but not as good as the first. But it was left off on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait until season 3 comes out.
McMillion$ (HBO) 3/5
Drew and I watched this in one weekend. I didn’t even know there was a scandal around the McDonald’s Monopoly game (which you find out why in the docu-series). It was extremely interesting, but could have been half as long.
The Outsider (HBO) 3/5
Drew binge-watched this one in one weekend. He never stays up past 11 pm but he stayed up late on a work night to get this series finished. It is based on a Stephen King novel – which is why Drew loved it. I ended up getting too creeped out by it and didn’t finish watching.
Too Hot to Handle (Season 1) (Netflix) LOL/5
This was a trash show with an interesting concept – but a highly entertaining trash show. So entertaining that I watched it twice. It was definitely a “no-brain” type of show so you could have it on and not feel guilty about yourself at all.
Indian Matchmaking (Season 1) (Netflix) 3/5
I was super excited to find out that one of the girls on the show was from Houston, but I wasn’t a huge fan of her so was then disappointed. This was an interesting look into the Indian matchmaking culture, but it was unsatisfying overall (not to spoil anything).
Never Have I Ever (Season 1) (Netflix) 5/5
Amazing new show by Mindy Kaling about a girl navigating the world without her dad. I laughed, cried and questioned some of the casting choices. But I loved it overall!
New Girl (Seasons 1-7) (Netflix) 5/5
I can’t believe it took me this long to watch this show but so glad I did! Drew and I would watch it after work, during dinner, and on the weekends while we worked on our home improvement projects.
Other
Becoming (Netflix) 5/5
I love Michelle Obama. Love love love her.
Love on the Spectrum (Season 1) (Netflix) 5/5
This was a beautiful show about finding love with autism. I watched all of season 1 in a day and couldn’t get enough. Everyone on the show was so sweet and I really hope they all find love!
Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich (Netflix) Ew/5
This was so eye-opening into a disgusting world that was Jeffrey Epstein. I remember when he was arrested but I wasn’t sure the back story. This docu-series was a dark dive into that life. It was extremely disgusting and devastating but also gave me hope that justice could still be served.
Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 (Disney+) 5/5
LOVED THIS. I watched it 3-4 times because it literally brought me to tears. If you enjoy watching behind the scenes type of docuseries, this is a great one – especially if you are a Disney lover like me!
Let me know your thoughts on anything in this list that you watch. I’d love to know!
Happy watching!
